A friendly reminder from the Chorus Committee
as we begin a new session…
Suggested Chorus Etiquette
Attendance & Responsibility
- Chorus is a team commitment—attend rehearsals and let leadership know ahead of time if you must miss.
- If you must miss multiple rehearsals – which we know is sometimes unavoidable – check in with the director for guidance on whether it may be best to skip the current session.
Be Prepared & Punctual
- Arrive early and be ready with your music, binder, and a pencil to mark score notes.
- Warm up your voice before rehearsal; your voice is your instrument.
Rehearsal Etiquette During rehearsal
- Silence phones and smartwatches before entering.
- Minimal talking—focus on the music and director’s instructions.
- Listen attentively when other sections rehearse; follow along quietly.
- Raise your hand or speak only when appropriate—ask questions respectfully. We know you want to help, but let the director answer questions!
- Maintain good posture—sit up straight with both feet on the floor or stand tall as you are able when required.
- Practice parts at home so rehearsals are efficient.
Health & consideration
- Avoid strong scents (perfume/cologne)—many have sensitivities.
- If you’re unwell, stay home or wear a mask and sit apart from the group to protect others. Finally, have fun making music!
